Dr. Lynna Bui offer ridge modification to treat deformities or the loss of tissue in the upper and lower jaws. Ridge modification may be recommended after periodontal disease, trauma, injury, the effects of dentures, or developmental problems have left insufficient bone for the placement of implants or indentations in the jaw line where teeth are missing. We welcome you to contact AZ Dental at 408-227-6000 to learn more about ridge augmentation in San Jose, California, and schedule your consultation with our dental professionals.
Ridge augmentation is a type of bone grafting procedure used to recreate the natural contour of your gums and jawbone. Our periodontist and oral surgeon generally recommend ridge modification to restore the original height and width of the alveolar ridge, either in preparation for dental implant placement or for aesthetic purposes.
During this procedure, we will lift the gum away from the ridge to expose the defect in your bone. The bony defect will be filled with bone graft material or a bone substitute, and the incision will be closed. There will be several months of healing to allow the area to begin regenerating.
Depending on the case and the type of implant, the implant placement surgery may occur during during the ridge modification procedure or following the healing period.
