Our dentists at AZ Dental use panoramic X-rays to capture complete images of your entire jaw. These wraparound images offer a view that would otherwise be invisible, and are quick and easy to capture. Call us at 408-227-6000 for more information about panoramic X-rays in San Jose, California, and to schedule your consultation with Drs. Andrew McDonald, Trang Thai, Allan Pang, Lynna Bui, and Anastasios Photopoulos.
Panoramic X-rays are extraoral, relying on a rotating mechanical arm to capture images of your face and teeth. Panoramic X-rays are taken on an as-needed basis to give our dentists a better view of the sinus and nasal areas and mandibular (jaw) nerve. They are also preferable when patients are in extreme pain and when sinus problems are suspected to be causing dental problems.
Our dentists use panoramic X-rays to:
- Assess patients who have an extreme gag reflex
- Evaluate TMJ disorders
- Expose cysts and other abnormalities
- Check for and expose impacted teeth
- Expose fractures in the jawbone
- Plan treatments (usually full and partial dentures, implants, and braces)
- Reveal gum disease
- Reveal cavities
Panoramic X-rays are an incredible versatile diagnostic tool, and are extremely helpful in planning future treatments. As no radiation enters the body, they are also safer than other types of X-rays.
